Stephen Taylor

Major Stephen Taylor received his commission through the Officer Candidate School program in 1996.   After completing the Basic School in 1997, he attended the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) in Quantico, VA and subsequently performed duties as a rifle platoon commander, and company executive officer in 3d Battalion 3d Marines, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Major Taylor left Hawaii in 2000 and became part of the staff at II MEF, working in the G-3 assigned to the Augmentation Command Element.  He participated in numerous II MEF level exercises and in January 2003 he served a seven-month combat tour in Iraq during the initial phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Task Force Tarawa.  

Upon returning from Iraq, Major Taylor attended the Army Infantry Captains Career Course and Airborne Jump School prior to being assigned to 2d Marine Division where he served as a company commander, 2d Marine Regiment, deploying to Al Anbar Province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005 through 2006.  

After returning from Iraq in 2006, Major Taylor was assigned as the Inspector Instructor to 3d Force Reconnaissance Company, Mobile Alabama.  While serving with 3d Force, Major Taylor coordinated and conducted reconnaissance training for reserve Marines.  In December 2009 Major Taylor was reassigned back to 2d Marine Regiment.   In February of 2010, he conducted additional deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Major Taylor was injured during combat operations on December 22, 2010.  He returned to the states in February 2011.  In May of 2011, Major Taylor was reassigned as the acting battalion commander for Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division.  He was last assigned to Wounded Warrior Battalion-East for combat injuries sustained in Helmand Province Afghanistan and retired in May 2017.
