Inspired by a post-Vietnam era memo, “The People’s Marathon” has hosted inspired and motivated individuals for over four decades. The Allied Forces Foundation is proud to be a charity partner with the MCM, having fielded fit and wounded teams from the US and Commonwealth countries, together with coalition partners internationally, since 2010.
The MCM is one of the largest marathons in the US and the world and stands as the largest marathon in the world that doesn’t offer prize money, earning its nickname, “The People’s Marathon.” The MCM has been voted “Best Marathon in the Mid Atlantic,” “Best Marathon for Charities” and “Best Spectator Event.”
Over the years, the MCM has evolved into a premier running organization with 30 full-time staff members and thousands of Marines, Sailors and civilian volunteers working to ensure the MCM mission is carried out as its founders intended.
With the MCM having turned 40 in 2015, it is not over the hill. It remains where it has always been, on top of the hill in the shadow of the Marine Corps War Memorial, ready to award those with the courage and commitment to train for and complete this 26.2 mile journey. The MCM remains a repository of inspiration, ambition, desire, stamina, tenacity and resilience.
